For clothes, Parker says he always enjoys making a pitstop to the Savers thrift store. “It’s very affordable, allowing no fear when it comes to reconstructing, repurposing, or recycling into something different,” he says. “Thrift shopping allows my own creativity, and recycling is always a good thing.” As for Jordan, he also seeks out vintage, though sometimes more luxe. “Shopping here for me are the vintage or resale stores like Art.i.fact, Double Take, and Savers,” he says. “Also, shops with handmade goods like Santa Fe Weaving Gallery, Toko, and Standard & Strange. Collecting-wise, Jordan adds that the duo have amassed quite the collection of Indigenous-made jewelry and pottery from local artists such as Kenneth Johnson, Virgil Ortiz, Cippy Crazy Horse, and Cody Sanderson. “Our collection of Native pottery and jewelry is too much to count,” Jordan says. “We have great pottery from the Ortiz family including Virgil, and a collection of over 100 Tesuque Rain Gods [pottery]. Vast amounts of Santo Domingo jewelry too, especially pieces made by Jolene Bird.” Jordan adds that he’s also a big handbag collector, citing key pieces from Hermès, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci. Parker, meanwhile, says he enjoys dressing as different “characters,” and that what he wears depends on his mood. “My personal style is eclectic, high and low,” Parker says. “Depending on the day, it can be flannel with jeans, or a wig with a dress. No rules of gender! I also have a growing collection of silver jewelry, usually with no stones.” Although they each hold their own distinctive inspirations and style curiosities, they do often swap pieces, and even share a closet. “We can wear each other’s clothes and put them together completely differently,” Parker says. Jordan adds, “Robert is a little more casual than I am. I prefer a more pulled together and matched from head to toe. I also tend to accessorize more. My looks are a little more what I call complex; others call it too much.” Another thing they share? The belief that good style can come at any age. They often capture their Instagram photos with the hashtags #eldergays and #advancedstyleolderandwiser.
