For day 1, I select a pair of jeans that have Elvis Presley’s face plastered on them. I actually wear these all the time and had gotten them a few years ago from street style photographer Phil Oh. He bought them in Vegas. I pair them with a white tank top I bought with a gift certificate from Aritzia. Then, I take an electric CitiBike across the Brooklyn Bridge to visit designer Yeohlee Teng, known for her structured, zero-waste designs. She adores my pants and takes a photo of me with the model. After my appointment with Teng, I get falafel at a Turkish spot across the street. An older man spots my pants and asks me out. Of course, I almost forgot: These pants are a conversation starter. I say no.I have a few hours to kill before the Collina Strada show at the Brooklyn Grange in the Navy Yard. So I go to the Lower East Side to visit my friend, who also loves the pants. As I’m chatting away, an inner voice tells me to check the schedule again. Turns out, there’s a different Brooklyn Grange in Sunset Park? I tell my friend I’m splitting and catch a cab.
In the name of the father, the son, and the house of Gucci, Good Morning Vogue is getting an exclusive look into the world of House of Gucci costume designer Janty Yates. Raven Smith met up with Yates in London to discuss costuming Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, and more in the anticipated new film by Ridley Scott. Yates also gave Good Morning Vogue a preview of never-before-seen images and clips from the film. Inside London’s Gore Hotel, Yates describes the Gucci look of the film’s period, designed by the late Maurizio Gucci, as “round and brown.” “Tom Ford came and cut a swath through that!” she says. While Gaga does wear archival Gucci pieces in the film, Yates looked to vintage dealers and archive houses for many of the buzzed-about outfits and added heaps of accessories to Gaga’s looks. “She had 54 script days,” Yates says, “and she never repeated a look, not even an earring.”
I barely make the show and no photographers have captured my pants. That’s fine; I’m totally transfixed by Dorian Electra’s wild performance toward the end. And guess what? A day later, I see that a site has captured me en route to the Collina Strada show in those freaky Elvis pants. I forgot to RSVP to the Maryam Nassir Zadeh show and I’m working on a deadline for something unrelated to Fashion Week. I’m staying home, wearing underwear and a tank top I bought at a bazaar. No one is allowed to see this moment.
