“I have a solo exhibition that just opened up at Jeffrey Deitch in New York. “I think my work is very personal to some degree but accessible in the sense that I use a lot of recognizable imagery, maybe kind of [central] to California or being brown. People that inspire me [include] Sarah Gomez, Aaron Zupan, Nathan Harris, Jasmine Monsegue, and Jaime Muñoz. Muñoz and I share a lot of things in common because of being brown and growing up in the Inland Empire. He grew up in Pomona and is also really interested in car culture and a similar language that I think we have been associated with.”
“It was a style that I grew up with, buying shirts at the local flea markets in Houston. My father and grandfather airbrushed as well. But I didn’t start airbrushing until early 2018. I’ve always been into making clothes and like the idea of having someone wear my art. So first it was screen printing, but that transitioned into airbrushing when I bought my own compressor gun in early 2018.
